Sub-goals and sub-KPIs

You can break your goals and KPIs down into sub-goals and sub-KPIs. For example:

  • Total revenue
    • Revenue Netherlands
    • Revenue Germany
    • Revenue Belgium
  • Sickness absence
    • Absence department A
    • Absence department B
    • Absence department C

Below we only talk about goals, but for KPIs it works in exactly the same way.

Add sub-goals

  • Open a goal by clicking on it.
  • Under the heading ‘Related goals’, click ‘Add goal’.

  • Type the title of the sub-goal and click ‘Save’.

  • The sub-goal is added. Click it to edit it.

If there are already sub-goals, use the button that appears when you hover over the goal:

  • Click the plus button to create a new sub-goal.

Make sub-goals visible in the OGSM

You see the sub-goals on the detail screen of a goal. By default they are not visible in the OGSM. You can make them visible via the view settings.

  • In the toolbar, click Components.
  • Tick the box at Show underlying items.

The sub-goals are now visible in the OGSM.

Calculate totals for target values and measurements

You can use the target values and measurements of sub-goals to calculate a total score. This can be done in the following ways:

  • Sum: the values of the sub-goals are added together if they have the same date. This is how you, for example, calculate total revenue by summing the revenue of the different countries.
  • Sum per quarter: the values of the sub-goals are summed per quarter.
  • Sum per year: the values of the sub-goals are summed per year.
  • Average: the average of the values of the sub-goals with the same date.
  • Average per quarter: the average of the values of the sub-goals in the same quarter.
  • Average per year: the average of the values of the sub-goals in the same year.
  • Highest value: the highest of the underlying values is shown. Useful in situations where the underlying values must not exceed a certain limit.
  • Lowest value: the lowest value is shown.
  • Median: the value of the number in the middle when you line up all values from low to high. Often the median is more meaningful than the average.
  • None: the values are not calculated. Useful, for example, for qualitative goals/KPIs.

On the parent goal you indicate how the total score is calculated.

  • Click the field ‘Calculation of totals’.
  • Select the calculation you want.

Then fill in the target and measurement values for all sub-goals. Note: make sure values you want to include in the calculation have the same date.

The total scores appear on the parent goal.
